I fell completely in love with Tanner and Steve. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend “Jesse’s Diner”. It’s just another great story by one of my new favorite authors.
I enjoyed this little novella primarily because of Isaac's sweet and tenacious desire for Rafi. The beginning made me smile as Rafi shares with readers why he disliked Isaac but also how he can't resist Isaac, either sexually or emotionally. The romance is quick moving as this is a novella but it still seemed a complete romance. I liked these characters so well that I would like another story featuring the gentle giant Isaac and the quirky Rafi in their simple, heartfelt romance
The story was told from Rafi's point of view, and he was a great character with a sarcastic sense of humor. Rafi is intelligent, hard-working, and a bit lonely. Although he has some good friends, he hasn't fallen in love yet. Isaac might be a major star, but he wasn't arrogant. Instead, he was kind, loving, and a bit possessive. At first glance, it didn't make any sense that Isaac liked Rafi based on how he treated Rafi in high school. However, as Rafi starts to remember some of the nice things Isaac did for him, the story took on a different feel. It was almost like a reminder to the rest of us not to let negative feelings cloud our pasts and block the good memories. There were several extremely steamy sex scenes during which these two continued to grow their relationship. The conversations were wonderful, and I really felt like I got to know the characters. The story takes place over a reasonable period of time, and we get a glimpse into what their future would be like together. I really enjoyed this wonderful steamy relationship story with a great sense of humor and interesting characters!
I also loved the strong family themes that were pervasive in this story…Abe's relationship with his family, Jason's with his ex-wife and children, and the new relationships formed when they became a couple. Jason wasn't all that likable for quite a bit of the story and I loved having my opinion of him evolve as he did. It was one of the strengths of the writing. This transitions from steamy (off the charts) encounters to a relationship of substance that works on so many levels.
A family size package of Double Stuf Oreo cookies - that's what this book reminded me of. For me, that equates to a package full of pure bliss. And, as if one helping were not enough, I had to gorge myself with a second (or in this case, an immediate re-read)! ... I dare you not to fall in love with Charlie - in fact, I'll double dare you... Those two cookie shells need the fluffy center - it's the only thing that makes them complete. And those three pieces together? A little taste of heaven on earth! ... While it may seem logical to expect sadness in a story involving splits, this is not a sad story. Yes, there is clearly some pain involved, but the story doesn't dwell in those areas. The author keeps things moving along and you can't help but look forward to the next chapter in their lives. ... So, yeah, a family size package of Double Stuf Oreo cookies - that's what this book is all about. Grab the package and be a glutton. It's more than worth it!
