When a casual hookup turns into the potential for love, staid Spencer realizes he wants to build a life with vibrant Emilio.
When twenty-two-year-old Emilio Sanchez sees handsome Spencer Derdinger walking by his construction site, Emilio makes it his goal to seduce the shy professor. Getting Spencer into bed isn’t difficult, but Emilio soon learns that earning the trust of a man deeply hurt will take time and patience. With a prize like brilliant, sweet Spencer on the line, Emilio decides he is strong enough to face the challenge.
Spencer is surprised when he’s approached by the gorgeous construction worker he’s admired from the safety of his office window. Acting spontaneously for the first time in his thirty-eight years, Spencer takes Emilio home. When the casual hookup turns into the potential for love, Spencer realizes that if he wants to build a life with Emilio, he’ll need to be strong enough to slay his personal demons and learn to trust again.
“Ahem. What are you doing?”
Spencer Derdinger jumped away from his office window at the unexpected sound of a voice behind him.
“Nothing!” he shouted defensively as he turned toward the door to see Maria Lee, his colleague and friend, watching him with a smirk on her face. The wooden blinds clanked loudly against the window, making Spencer flinch.
Maria raised one eyebrow, slowly walked over to the window, placed a perfectly manicured finger on one slat, and pulled it down.
“When did you turn into such a cliché?” she asked without looking away from the window.
“I don’t know what you mean.” Spencer skittered over to his desk and started stacking the randomly strewn-about papers into equally random piles.
After turning around, walking over to an empty chair, and sitting down with her thin ankles crossed, Maria flipped her hair back over her shoulder and said, “Spencer,…
Sweet and sappy and adorable. A feel-good story about second chances at love and trusting again. The book fully met the expectations I had formed based on the blurb, and thus succeeded in what it promised. ... I like the characterizations. ... I liked how the author created two very different characters, opposites in almost every aspect, and completely made it work. The naughty scenes were holy hot boysecks, but underlined with tons of emotions, and the dialogue felt organic and realistic. I also liked the supporting characters in Emilio's family and Spencer's friend. ... The author's voice (new to me) was lovely, the writing crisp and still emotionally charged. A great book with which to spend a few hours escaping from your own life.
This book kind of sweeps into the readers' minds who ultimately gets swept into the author's tale willingly. ... The best parts of this story was really the relationship of Emilio had with his family and it was quite understandable that Spencer was envious of it that he really wanted to become a part of it. The rough housing type of sibling fun between the brothers and in-law was hilarious and their closing in as a unit to protect Spencer was incredibly sweet. ...This is romantic fiction at its best. I just fell for this whole idea of what love can be and how falling in love can be likened to a lightning strike. Needless to say, I fell asleep with a big smile on.
I love this story. It shows what you can do when you truly do love someone and are willing to accept them flaws and all. Also shows that real love will truly set you free.
I love both Spencer and Emilio and even Emilio's brothers. All the characters are engaging and fun and I really lapped up this story. It was sweet and spicy all rolled up into a book I couldn't put down until I was done. Absolutely fabulous!
