This is the first book in the Mates series and is a fun one I like to re-read. Zev is the son of a pack alpha and is supposed to mate with a female wolf. Only, he's finding himself more and more attracted to his best human friend, Jonah. And there's no such thing as a gay shifter. This is a bit different from my usual fare because there wasn't a clear villain or straight plot line. It was more like a peak inside the lives of these two men, which is perfect if that's what you're looking for. I love the two heroes, and I loved reading as they fought (or tugged) on their chemistry and created a bond.

For some of us there are those "go-to" authors whom we rely on for a certain type of story. For me, author Cardeno C. has always been the writer I turn to for a warm, fuzzy romance that has the most delightfully likable characters and a wonderful happy ever after. Cardeno C.'s latest novella, McFarland's Farm, does not disappoint!... the sweet love story that unfolds between these two men is really well written. ... Two seemingly polar opposites who are undeniably attracted to each other but fumble about, denying their interest, makes for a fun and delightful story.... a beautiful story of love and acceptance.

Cardeno C. always manages to craft tales full of heart and love.....This book is a lovely story that portrays two very different men that complement and support one another thereby making them both stronger....This story really captured the "true mates" idea perfectly because it depicted two men who are only complete and whole when together. I love that Cardeno C really writes romantic and heartwarming tales because Samuel and Korbin's story was so sweet, romantic and wonderfully done. I honestly loved every second and can be read as a standalone.

What I loved about the dynamic of Jeremy and Reg's relationship was how ‘take charge' Reg became. Jeremy was the star but he liked Reg in control of things so he could focus on performing...Reg was the one person that seemed to care about Jeremy because he truly liked him and not because he could gain anything from knowing him. I think that was what Jeremy loved the most about Reg at first as well. That ‘like' soon started to reshape into something more. ...Since Jeremy never had a real relationship with anyone, it took him awhile to discover what he truly had with Reg. The slow burn was very sweet and romantic and so Cardeno C! Read this book for the nice permanent smile that will be on your face the whole time you read it. Also, because sometimes no angst is the very best thing in the world!!

I still have that happy feeling inside, the same every Cardeno C. book leaves me with...I can't have enough of Cardeno's books.
